Mux is a local-first agent harness — a snappy, productivity-focused multiplexer for running agents in your browser, across a wide range of providers, while you keep control of your data. It's built to scratch an itch, not to be everything for everyone.
A full-featured, full-coverage implementation of every API, parameter, provider, protocol, and trend out there. Focus is on what's useful and what keeps things productive.
Mux speaks the OpenRouter API flavor: point it at any OpenRouter-compatible endpoint URL with your API key, and use any model ID that endpoint serves — for example openai/gpt-4o. You can add several providers and pick one per thread.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers let you connect external tools for your agents. From the MCP servers page you can register a remote server by URL and API key, test the connection to see its tool listing, and manage the servers configured for a workspace.
Workspaces are the top-level containers — one per project or team.
Channels live inside a workspace and hold shared context: that keeps it out of the way of unrelated work, avoids polluting every thread, and favors specialization — each channel can be scoped to a particular area.
Threads are the conversations themselves; each thread runs against one model from one of your providers.
On your device. Workspaces, channels, threads, and provider configurations are all stored locally in your browser via PGlite and IndexedDB.
Nothing leaves your device unless you connect an external provider. If you do, their rules apply on their servers — Mux offers a "deny data collection" option for some providers, but all we can do is ask nicely.
Off by default, and strictly opt-in. When you enable it, Mux sends anonymous error and usage statistics to find bugs and focus on the right things. You confirm before it turns on, and you can turn it off any time on the Data page.
Export a full database snapshot from the Data page and import it again — here or on another device. Snapshots are plain files; modify at your own peril.
